Hi Bill! I'm afraid I have indeed given up on creating a GUI. I've only had a few people show any interest in this, and it just didn't seem worth the effort. It's pretty simple to setup with the text file, though.

If you do get it going, let me know how it works for you. VNC just always seemed too laggy, so I lost interest, but maybe you'll have good results.

WOW! This looks like a great idea. I know this is an old post, but have you given up on creating a GUI for it? I have an old Belkin KVM and need to replace it and started looking around. This was one of the first things a came across. I’m a self-taught pc tech and still learning so I’m not sure I understand this, but I’m going to give it a try. Thanks for your hard work.

I just replied to Dave's comment with this, but take a look at this thread: http://www.bluehostforum.com/archive/index.php/t-8191.html Hopefully you get it figured out! I'm not a Linux expert by any means, and it's just been too long for me to know how to figure this out, but the people in that thread seem to have some solutions.

I'm not really qualified to know what's wrong, but you're probably right; things have changed since I originally wrote this. However, check out this thread: http://www.bluehostforum.com/archive/index.php/t-8191.html About mid-way down, it looks like people were figuring out how to fix the same problem you had.

Hello,
I have followed your every step. But every time I run 'make install' it gave error.
Secondly, for last 'make' command for subversion step: it showed me this error: "/usr/lib/libexpat.so: could not read symbols: File in wrong format",
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [subversion/libsvn_subr/libsvn_subr-1.la] Error 1

Even for 'make install' command, it's the same message shown. Please help.

<a href="#comment-972" rel="nofollow">@Pablo</a>
The only reason for the limit of 8 PCs is that I figured using keys 2-9 was logical, and I could never image needing more than 8 for personal use. However, I'll be glad to update the program to allow for an unlimited amount to help you out.

First, though, have you given Virtual KVM a try with just a couple computers yet? You might find that VNC is general is just to slow for what you need. From my experience, it usually takes too long to redraw the picture when things start happening on the screen, and I got frustrated and quit using VNC for the most part.

Give it a try if you haven't, and if VNC seems fast enough for you, I'll be happy to make it work with much more than just 8 PCs. :)

I use a KVM switch at work for computer classes with up to 24 computers. When I need to display a students action on the projector screen, I have to unplug the serial cable from my PC and plug it into that students PC. I found this disgusting. Then, the idea of virtual KVM came to mind and I though, "this must exist". Did a search and came across your site. My question is, why only 8 PC's? I want to be able to switch between all of my students PC's without having to worry about how many PC's there are. I will do some more search after this but seeing this is my first stop, I will post the question here. Maybe some software that is installed on each PC to allow this function?

Hi Compeek,

I recently had an account with hostmonster & tried installing subversion. The apr installation went well, sqlite was also ok. When i tried making subversion, guess default libraries from /usr/include conflicted with my new ~/include/ files.

I am no makefile guy so i tweaked the Makefile & removed instance of /usr/include at all the commands. Svn installed with make & make install then.

Thanks for the pointers. The other places are too old to be able to help me much.
